Things happen...

...when you make them.

That is what I believe. Design is about creation. Design is about people. Design is about integration. But foremost, design is about 'making things happen'.

It expresses my motivation towards design. Things can only happen, when someone makes them happen. As a designer you carry responsibility to make things happen. You can shape the future. You can make changes. A designer should be motivated to make things happen.

It expresses how the future can be shaped. By making things. I believe that the products of the future are not something static. These products will be dynamic and interactive. They respond to people, environments and other products. Such products can only be created by making them. As soon as one starts making things, problems are encountered, solutions are explored, decisions are taken and lessons are learned. The act of making in itself is valuable to the designer.

Besides such dynamic and interactive products cannot simply be evaluated with sketches. One should experience them. Therefore, making things allows to experience these products.

Finally, it expresses the goal of design: making things happen. Design is about creating value for people. But how can a designer decide whether value has been created for the user? I believe you should always evaluate with the user. Since the user is the one you design for, he should evaluate your design.

This states my approach towards design. I am a well-motivated designer, that is driven to make changes. I believe that making things is an essential skill for a designer. I have developed myself strongly in the areas of 'technology' and 'user focus'. This enables me to create working prototypes and evaluate them with users.
